The 8th annual Belfast Film Festivalrolls into town next month, and among the 125 events, screening films from 32 countries, a number of LGBT interest films are on offer.
Otto; Or Up With Dead People (Cert 18)
is the latest offering from leading gay experimental director Bruce La Bruce (who will participate in a Q&A after the screening), telling the story of a young zombie’s re-discovery of his past in Berlin. Darkly comic and somewhat pornographic, the film pushes the boundaries of both the traditional horror and gay erotic genres. Showing on Friday 11th April at 6.30pm, QFT.
On Tuesday 15th, Finn’s Girl, a provocative Canadian thriller cum domestic drama juggles themes of lesbian widowhood, single parenting and anti-abortion violence screens at 9.45pm at QFT.
East Side Story (15)
, a warm, humorous, gay romance juxtaposing racism and homophobia within LA’s Latino community screens on 16th April at 7pm in the Belfast Film Festival studio, while the LGBT line up is rounded off on the 17th with The Aggressives (15), a documentary exploring gender identities in the New York lesbian subculture of women who prefer to dresSeand act as men and who participate in the city’s predominantly African-American lesbian drag balls, showing at 8pm in the Black Box.
