Jared is Gay. Gay is akin to Communism in Middle America in the late 50s/early 60s, and therein lies the basis of Will Aitken’s story. We have a year in Jared’s young life and his life iSeanything but boring.
A small town witch-hunt for “Commies”could be compared to witch hunts for Gays today. His parents are no help – his mother sick and his father anti Gay with just a hint of SM.
A rather light read, but well written and evokes a picture of a time long past to quote from another novel a time’!gone with the wind” – hopefully.
